About the Role
The 70,000 square foot facility is in the heart of the Downtown Arts District, nestled among an accredited Museum of Art, Museum of History, Mexican American Cultural Center, two performing arts centers, artist loft housing, and ample green space. La Nube is in the final phase of construction, and is expected to open in August 2024.
You will be responsible for managing the experience with a dynamic staff, managing a $5 million budget, and leading earned revenue/fundraising efforts. You will report to the board of directors of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, currently a supporting organization of the El Paso Community Foundation.
You will embrace the vision and intent of La Nube and will lead the institution as it ignites a love of lifelong learning. You will ensure the building and exhibitions maintain a high-quality experience for families and foster the life-long pursuit of learning among its visitors.
You will be responsible for a diverse team deeply rooted in the needs and demographics of the community. The ideal person for this role will encompass the vision of continual improvement, innovation, and accessibility for all; utilizing an employee-centric and guest experience forward way of thinking.

Essential Duties:
LEADERSHIP & GENERAL MANAGEMENT
• Build a team culture that inspires staff to be innovative but also maintain a work life balance.
• Understand and champion La Nube’s mission; communicate its relevance in El Paso, the broader region, and with like-minded experiential, active learning institutions nationally and internationally.
• Develop La Nube’s strategic five-year plan.
• Manage the business affairs of the Museum; ensure finances are responsibly managed, that strong controls are in place, and financial reports and other documents are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.
• Steward existing relationships and develop new partnerships with other museums and attractions, schools, universities, patrons, volunteers, and other community members; serve as an advocate for the Museum and for El Paso, assuring that the interests of the Museum are advanced and fully understood.
• Report regularly to the board of directors and manage the governance of the organization.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE
• Work with the guest service and education staff to create a long-range plan to continually refresh and enrich the La Nube’s programming.
• Work to make La Nube a beacon for inclusion and access socially, culturally, physically, and financially; ensure that all materials and exhibit text are bilingual English/Spanish to authentically serve the bicultural community.
• Leverage the space in ways that deepen the visitors’ experience and motivate return visits.
• Oversee the preservation and high-quality maintenance of the museum’s physical assets (exhibits, building, and infrastructure).
EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC PROGRAMMING
• Assume a leadership role in implementing La Nube’s educational philosophy and goals.
• Build partnerships with stakeholders in El Paso’s educational ecosystem and position La Nube as a key partner.
• Encourage educators, artists, and artisans in the region to contribute ideas, creativity, and resources to ensure La Nube stays at the cutting edge of active learning experiences.
REVENUE
• Serve as the chief fundraiser for La Nube; set high expectations for contributed support from foundations, corporations, individuals, and other philanthropic sources for programs and events.
• Manage earned revenue streams from admissions, retail, membership, licensing, facility rentals, and other sources.
• Work with the Board to grow the endowment, enabling La Nube to continually upgrade exhibitions, enhance the facility, and provide for financial stability as the institution matures.
GOVERNANCE
• With the Board, set the strategic direction of La Nube; implement board policies, goals, priorities, and objectives; keep the Board informed of all relevant issues.
• Identify and help recruit new board members with the intent of deepening La Nube’s connection to the community.
• Work with the Board Chair to cultivate mutually supportive relationships with stakeholders important to the institution’s future.
Candidates applying from outside El Paso will be required to move and reside in El Paso.
Physical Demands/Occupational Hazards
This position is active. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
• Observe and react to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Move throughout the museum.
• Manipulate, lift and/or move materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Occasional bending/stooping, kneeling, reaching, and laying down on hard surfaces.
• Frequent sedentary work; sitting for extended periods of time and prolonged exposure to computer lighting.
• Occasional walking on uneven surfaces.
